I have Windows 7 Pro on a laptop and a desktop. I have a wireless home network setup. Each computer can "see" the other (as listed when clicking on the network icon on each computer).

My problem is this. When I click on the name of the other computer to look at files on it, I get a box that pops up and asks me to enter the network password. Then below that in the same box is a place to add user name and password. I have no idea which user name and password to add. I have tried my user name that I log onto my computer with. I have used the computer's name. I have used the other computer's name and user name. Which password is it asking for? My wireless router password? My computer logon password? The other computer's logon password. I am at a loss. I get "logon failure: unknown user name or bad password ".

I have searched and searched for answers to no avail. All suggestions and answers are welcome. I know how to use "home group ", it works fine. However I should also be able to use the regular network connection and share and see files on each computer on the network. Thanks in advance.

Do you sign in on both the laptop and the desktop using the same username and password ?

No, they each have a different user name and password.

If your using the desktop to access the files on the laptop - then you need to put in the username and password for the laptop. And VisVersa.

    Hope this helps.
