Can anyone shed some light on this one. I purchased yesterday Norton System Works 2003 in it's shiny new yellow box. Now there was a small Upgrade sticker in the bottom, but as I already had Norton on my machine, I bought it. (ps I recently uninstalled the AntiVirus part of the suite due to a problem shutting down) Anyway, I have installed and re-installed three times now due to a strange problem that I cannot figure out.
After installation, I will try and click on the shortcut icon on the desktop to access the programme. After a few seconds of hard disk activity....nothing. BUT, if you keep trying I can sometimes manage to get the main window to appear for a few seconds then it will vanish. The same with going throught the start menu.....it's as if it's trying to load up, but hasn't got the strength. Also cannot access the antin virus programme, but CAN load up Win Doctor and Disk Doctor and a few other parts. I have even gone straight into the Exe icon in the folder and have the same result. Just as matter of interest, when I right click on the shortcut icon, it tells me where the file is in the window...ie in the Shared Files in Common folder. but if you click to find the Target it fails. It did ask me to unisntall the original programme when I first installed this new version. I am going to uninstall again and wait and see if I can find a solution first. Talk about driving you to distraction Thanks Ron:(

    Hi Ron

Sometimes on some computers on some OS's Norton is hard to install especially if upgrading!

But the symptoms you describe disappearing Icons or hard to get up at all could be a Virus. There are now several that know how to disable Norton and some of the other well-known scanners!

    What OS do you have?

I just sent you a direct email with 5 files!

To begin this fix after you have these attachments pull your cable or phone line so as to be off the Internet or other computers if any!

    1. Uninstall all Norton with add/remove
    2. Use find search to find all left over Norton on the HD!
    3. Run the rnav that I sent, further cleans Norton. Run it once for each version of Norton even if you don’t have that ver!
    4. Run symclean also cleans further!
    5. Run the fixopa
    6. run the fix bugbear
    7. Clean up and delete all temp internet files and c:\windows\temp
    8. Reinstall only the Norton antivirus reconnect and update then do full deep scan!

Reboot as necessary during the process above!

    Get back to us!

    Mike
