I bought my 1st computer in 2005. Cutting a long story short - everything was pirated, I paid the earth for it and then the firm went out of business and I had to get everything replaced.
I bought a windows XP Prof in English and was 'presented' with a Windows XP Prof. with SP2 in Spanish. (I think). It is still in it's sealed wrapper.

My question is, if I buy an external Hard Drive, and if I wish to install this new XP Prof, if it is in Spanish, is there a part during the installation that allows the language to be changed to English, or does it only have Spanish as the language with no option to change to English.

All the wording on the disc and the paperwork that can be seen through the clear sealed wrapping, is in Spanish.

The details of the disc read -

    Windows XP Professional.
    Incluye Service Pack 2
2004 Microsoft Corporation reservados todos los derechos
    0504 Pieza nº X10 59886 ES

I understand the Spanish but think that the "ES" at the end indicates that it is in Spanish only ---??

I have a problem with the computer at this time, and am thinking of getting a new one as I am told that all my items inside my present old chassis, have connections that are now out of date and will not fit into a new chassis if I were to buy one. I was also told that one doesn't buy a chassis on it's own, it comes with things like motherboard and graphic card, and they now have different sockets etc. I was thinking of buying the large capacity hard drive as an external hard drive and use it as the 'working' hard drive and the internal one to keep as a backup.

Anyone with a little knowledge will understand that I am not very competent in this subject and I would appreciate any input here, please!

    Thanks,

    Colin

Correct me if I am wrong:

Sorry to say but, if the software is in Spanish it does not give you a choice for English.

Also, on the computer part. Correct. Alot of the hardware (unless you find old hardware)
will not work in a out dated PC. You can buy a case, motherboard, graphic card, power supply - but you need to know what to look for. Not all graphic cards will work in every motherboard. There are different types.

The other thing is memory and the CPU. You can buy these separately.
But not all types of memory will work in all types of motherboards and this also goes for CPU's (Central Processing Unit).

This is called building your own PC or Piece Part.

The best way is to go to a repeatable electronics store or computer store and ask for help or purchasea hole system outright. This way you will get what you want instead of searching for everything.

    Hope this helps.

    Windows XP Prof.

    sp3851,

    Thank you for your reply.

I had a feeling that it was that way!

So, off to the sales, then! I shall follow your advice and seek assistance.

(I had a 'live chat' with a Dell rep. online and she ended up saying that I would have to spend, at the least, 1, 200 G.B.pounds to get what I want.--I thought to myself that I did not think I was so stupid to actually believe her!!!:p)

I shall close the 'follow this thread' now, you have told me what I needed to know.

Very many thanks --anyone want to buy an unused XP, Prof. + SP 2 ?????.....!! :p

    Regards

    Colinito
