microsoft wireless mutimedia keyboard problem

    cannot get keyboard to work but mouse works fine.
    microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0a, with optical mouse.
    downloaded latest drivers, shows that keyboard is connected under heading 'WIRELESS ". battery strength good, but keybord unresponsive. tried uninstalling and reinstalling, device manager says it is working properly.
    os- windows xp pro, sp3
    AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.67 GHz 1.00 Gb Ram

    May be obvious but is there an on/off switch? Failing that I can't help but perhaps others can.

    Hi, I have after market wireless keyboard that talks to a laptop stand plugged into the laptop and that has 2 AAA batteries in it , Mine didn't work at first untill I put in the batteries, also it has a connect button under the keyboard to recognise the base,

    tried that as well, to no avail, **** thing says everything is good though, thats the puzzling thing
