    hard drive

What is your mainboard & does it's bios support larger then 8gig? Do you LBA set in the first part of the bios? What size hard drive are you installing? Did a utility disket come with the drive so you can maybe do a bios overlay? This solves older mainboard probs w/large hard drives.:)

You must have a older system that will only see up to a 8 GB drive. If your drive did not come with software to over come this go to the company that makes your drive website. They should have software you can download that will over come the 8 GB limit.

An alternative is to install a Promise ATA100/or 133 controller card which will allow you to connect upto 4 IDE/EIDE devices bypassing any BIOS limitation.

You simply connect your hard drive to it after installing the drivers supplied and then installing the card in a PCI slot in your computer.

It sounds like you need to update your BIOS. Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and download the the latest bios for your EXACT model. BE CAREFUL and follow all instructions exactly!

It worked for me, good luck!

If you can not get an upgrade for the BIOS or are afraid to try upgrading it I would suggest the Promise Card.

The Overlay can be a REAL BIG PAIN in the part of our body that we sit on.
