Purchasing a new 2010 HP desktop, in January, with all the bells an whistles.
Request recommendations to prepare myself for the initial boot? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

    Hi Lis,

Initial boot should be straight-forward just take it slowly and answer any prompts correctly and you should be fine. However, considering you're "Remarkably Dangerous" you may wish to have a friend to hold your hand (I'd volunteer but TX is a little too far for me ;) ).

HP's help and support are quite good though so even without that friend I wouldn't be too concerned.

    Added...

Once you've started the system make recovery DVD(s) sorry I'm unsure of the exact procedure HP use nowadays but you should be prompted either during initial boot or an option will appear in the start menu.

Have 2 (or 3) blank DVD's available, and be aware you'll probably only be allowed to make 1 recovery set so treat it very nice and backup the recovery.

LOL thats not a hurdle thats more like sitting in an innertube and going for a ride over the niagra falls lol

but as stated above just follow the prompts it's all really easy to understand so you shouldn't have to much trouble and good luck with your new OS after about a month you'll never want to go back to win98

You were still using Win98 up to this day? wow...

Even so... computers are very easy to understand now. (My mum even uses Linux on hers.)

I think you will get it in no time.
