    Hi all
I just had a computer crash.
I rebooted several times and it gets me to my desktop, but after a minute or so I get the BSOD telling me
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Next time it tells me:
    Page_fault_in_none_paged_Area

It then tells me to make sure any new software or hardware is installed properly.
I have not installed anything, hardware or software in a long time.

    The error code is:
    Stop: (0x971EA160, 0x000000000, 0x804E9626, 0x00000000 ,
    0x0000000A (0xFFE00124 0x00000002 0x00000001 0x804DB848

This happened when I was playing DECSENT2. this game will not run in XP, so I have installed DOS BOX. It always worked fine in the past.

I tried to boot the last known good configuration, no good either. Also it will not boot into safe mode. It tells me windows could not start because a file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. please re-install the file. How do I do that?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Update

    Thanks PeteC
I will print the instructions and keep it in a save place

    Update:
This morning I turned on my computer and it started up normally.
I was thinking, could this be because of heat?
The game tends to make my computer hot and it may be time to evict all those dust bunnies that have moved in.
The case was quite warm when I turned it off last night.
    Any thoughts on that?

Overheating can play havoc with computers and lead to all sorts of strange behaviour so it is certainly time to evict the dust bunnies :D

If you don't find any I would look at improving the cooling either by installing additional case fans or updating the CPU cooler. Games are graphics intensive and your card may also need more cooling.

I suggest you download SIW and leave it running while you game as this software (Hardware > Sensors) records Max, Min and current temps. You may post the results here for comment if you wish.

I would not expect overheating to give the ntoskrnl.exe error, but everything is possible :)

It might be an idea to check out your hard drive with the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software (DOS version) for peace of mind .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Hi PeteC

Thanks for you info. I do have SIW and the only temp I could find was on my Seagate hard drive. This is actually drive "Dâ€, not the drive with xp on it. It shows 109f at the moment. I looked under processors but it does not give me a temp reading.

Well, it is running and I will clean it up as soon as I can.

    Thanks again
