Hi All, ....... Recently I changed my ISP. Because this occasioned a new e-mail address with the new ISP, I reinstalled Thunderbird. I choose TB 3.0 and then my problems started. First came this Alert:
The mail screen has changed. When I want to create an e-mail and click on Write, there is no adjacent button for Contacts which my earlier TB had.

Apparently I can send an e-mail. This can be read in the Comcast mail screen but not in TB. The Server settings that I now have:

Server Name..... mail.comcast.net....... Port 110 (Default)

Outgoing Server (SMTP) ....... Comcast - smtp.comcast.net (Default)

    Any suggestions?

You might consider going back to TB 2...23: Click Here

It appears others are having some difficulty with V3

I cannot fully diagnose the problem, Not knowing the settings which Fred used for Comcast. I do not understand, from the post that you used 2.0.23 for Comcast.Try this tutorial. Scroll down to Comcast to get the scoop.

Westside, .......As stated in my initial post about the new installation, "I choose TB 3.0." But part of your advice was right on. The link: this tutorial at the MollaZine site for Comcast had the information which fixed the e-mail connection problem. The fix was to uncheck both the "use secure authentication" and "use secure connection (SSL)" in the Server Settings screen.

The missing Contact button after clicking on Write is still a problem. Apparently others using TB 3.0 are complaining about this. One response to solve the missing Contact button recommended right clicking the tool bar and using Customize to drag the Contact button to the toolbar. Unfortunately my Customize screen does not contain the term "Contact" and I'm not clever enough to go further with this. If you or others would like to offer solutions, please do so.

Thank you for helping to get my e-mail working.

Mind you that I am using an old profile for TB3.0, so, all the info is there. If I select Write the address book is on the left of the message space. If I go to View|Customize, after having selected Write, View|Customize has a Contacts icon which can be dragged and dropped on the toolbar. It is, totally, unnecessary, though, because when I click on it for the first time, my address book disappears, reappearing when I click, again, on Contacts. Actually, as long as there is an address book, typing a small part of the address is enough to bring up a choice of addresses, if not the entire address.
However, what I am seeing may not be the basic situation. Look at this thread

Westside, ................ Your suggestion of "View|Customize" solved the Contact button problem. I was not aware that Customize was part of the drop-down for View. Once I got a Contacts icon I was able to make it part of the mail toolbar and now my address list is available. Thank you for the continued support.
