Hi. I'm running IE8 on XP Home Sp3. I have "Delete TIFs on exit [from IE]" checked, have run ATF Cleaner in Admin mode with "Select all" checked, but there are still some obstinate cookies which remain in the TIF folder. And I can't delete them manually, either - I just hear an "error" bong when I select them and hit Del.

Any advice please on how to totally delete all TIFs, cookies, etc.? I have at least one embarrassing one there, apparently from when I strayed accidentally onto a p*** site, and I share my machine with my family.

I would prefer a method which can be carried out without exiting a current work session. By that I mean I would prefer not to have to go through the hassle of shut down, log on in Safe Mode and then carry out some routine, shut down again and reboot, if that can be avoided. But if I must, I shall.

Tools>Internet options>Browsing history>delete and make sure the temporary internet files box is checked?

Thanks, Stokecity, but no. (Sorry: I should have listed that, too, among the things I tried.) That clears most of them, but the obstinate ones still remain.

Try using CCleaner and delete the index.dat files under Internet Explorer.

Be carefull when looking at the install options, especially the toolbar offered - uncheck that and when running CCleaner uncheck everything that is pre-checked, except under the IE heading - unless you want to clear out those entries too.

It worked. Wow - powerful stuff! To be handled with Extreme Care. But it certainly solved my immdiate problem - many thanks again, Pete, and best wishes.
