I have a Compaq Evo N610c that is displaying non system disk error however, after turning the unit off and back on the OS will load and all is well. I ran diags on the disk and it appeared to be fine. I went ahead and reinstalled XP PRO SP2 with all updates and drivers and the unit again appeared to be fine, until the unit is turned off and back on and againg the non system disk error appears. Thinking it was the drive I purchased a 40 GB Toshiba and installed it, loaded the OS and drivers and the unit is still having the same issue. I did go out to Compaq and installed all the latest drivers, including flasing the bios. I'm leaning toward the disk controller and possibly even a defective new drive. Any input would be appreciated.

    brimis,

In the BIOS of the PC do you have it booting to the C Drive or the drive that the XP
    is installed on ?

This issue may occur if your start device (such as a floppy disk drive, hard disk drive, or CD-ROM drive) does not contain boot files.

Hi , I have had support calls with this error, and the problem has been an attached USB MP3 player, or ipod connected to the PC. Many Mainboards will try and boot from a USB device if connected. You can turn this off in the BIOS.

This sounds like the system battery (CMOS battery) is dead. It's a button cell, usually about the size of a quarter-dollar coin and on the main board somewhere.

    You'll need to replace it.

I agree, I purchased a BR1225 battery and should have it shortly. Once installed, I'll post the out come.
    Thank you, kindly.
