I thought that I would disable the UAC feature in Vista. Now instead of the annoying UAC screens, I get the 'red shield' telling me that UAC is not working!!! I don't know which is worse! What can be done? Thanks.

There is an Administrator account so named within Vista that is hidden. To enable it - bring up an Elevated command prompt -
START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe above | run as admin

In the black "DOS" box type the following:

    net user administrator /active:yes

(change yes to no to deactivate it)

Now logoff your account and a user named Administrator will be waiting for you. Be very careful with this account as it is hedden for a reason - disaster recovery. Just click on the icon at the logon screen - remember the password if you set one for this account as your other user account(s) will need it as the UAC will ask for it instead of allowing you to just Continue.

Thanks for your reply, I'm going to have to put off doing this. This has not been a good week for me with computers!! It seems that everytime I touch the pc, something gets messed up! I thought that I would improve the performance of both my laptop and desktop by streamlining the 'services' and since then I've had a problem with OE timing out and not delivering my emails. If you have any suggestions how I can get OE back to working order, I sure would appreciate it.

    Hi Bigalx

Never a good thing unless you know what you're doing.

Totally unrelated to your original question and therefor may not be seen by many that could help. If it's only OE you're having problems with then I'd suggest posting in the Microsoft Mail forum. Try and remember which service fixes you applied (or at the least which website suggested them) this may help solve your problem(s).

Just for any "Beginner" type user reading this, I can assure you that if you do this, 99% of you will manage to s-c-r-e-w up your computer in no time, and be infected with Malware!
