I have been using Netscape email for years. Starting today I can not receive emails. I can send and open anything in the box but I can't receive. Any suggestions?

Can you tell us what kind of Netscape email you are referring to? And what program are you using?
Just for the record, the Netscape program has not been updated for about two years, and the @netscape.net server may not be working any more.
I know that AOL has stopped supporting the .net server, but mail was being forwarded to the @aim.com server. In fact, I switched my two netscape.net accounts to aim.com accounts, with the same username, with no problem, long ago.
But, if you mean mail from another provider, set up in the mail of Netscape7.x, it is a different story.
So, as you can see, it is not a simple answer.

Open the mail program, and click on the 'account_name@mail_host_company' link in the left hand box. You should then see the right hand box with all the mail settings for that account. Click on 'view settings for this account' and make sure that the pop[in my account, anyway] settings are correct. Sometimes the user information can get 'lost' in that the settings file is moved, deleted, or messed with by another program... They are stored in different places depending upon the version or release of Netscape. If you are actually using Netscape, the browser and email program, there have been about a bazillion updates, from Netscape to Mozilla to Seamonkey, to, currently, Firefox. I happen to use Seamonkey as my machine is sort of old [as am i] and is running W98SE.

I use Netscape 7.2 email. It is not an @Netscape address it is my server email address.
I went through all the settings and we couldn't figure out anything wrong there so I guess we will uninstall and reinstall the email program and see if that works. I don't know if I will lose all my folders that I have there or not when I uninstall but I guess I will find out.I have been using thunderbird which works fine but prefer the ease of the Netscape email I have been using.

I have stopped using NS7.2 long ago, but use Seamonkey, which is very much like NS7.x. And, I am using Thunderbird. I cannot see any difference between the two types of programs, other that Netscape accesses its settings from Edit, and Thunderbird for Tools. The mail setup is identical.
As a rule of thumb uninstalling the program accomplishes nothing. The profile, where Mail is located will not be lost. I am not sure what you mean by uninstalling the email program. If you mean that you would create another account, it is a different story.
As for not being able to send or receive mail, it is, usually, due to the fact that your ISP makes changes (usually port changes). Find out if your ISP has made any changes.
Also, compare your server settings in Netscape and Thunderbird.

Thanks for the feedback. I have checked with ISP and they say everything is OK with the setup. I haven't had time yet to uninstall Netscape email that I use.I have just been using Thunderbird which is close to it but still not as user friendly as Netscape. I don't use the @netscape address but my usual server address. I know Netscape is no longer supported but I would still like to use it as long as I can because it is so much more user friendly. I'll keep working on the problem and see if I can get it figured out.

There is no way to uninstall the mail portion of Netscape. Use Netscape, or don't.
Things are in constant flux, and, for nothing else, there have been no security updates for Netscape.
As for what is user friendly, or not, it matter of opinion. But, basically, Thunderbird are alike, except that you use the Edit for Netscape, and Tools for Thunderbird. And, the former has Preferences, and the latter Options. The Account settings are identical.

JJoy, I understand your wanting to remain in your comfort zone becasue I too am like that.

However, I'll suggest you do as I did a few years back and switch to SeaMonkey. SeaMonkey is practical identical to Netscape up to version 1.1.18 which came out as the latest version just a few months back.

You can see how SeaMonkey appears on the screen at:.. http://www.raysmyth.net/seamonkey

Version 2.0 of SeaMonkey is out but, it's setup is now similar to FF/TB

    You can download SM-1.1.18 at
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/1.1.18

    Cheers, Ray
