Does anyone know what "Member" you can set a user to so that they cannot modify the 'registry'? located under 'computer management>local users and groups>users'

NOTE: the user is not on a DOMAIN, we have him logging into the Pc with a username / password on a stand alone system.

    ideas?
    thanks

I would think that a 'Limited User' Account would be appropriate.

Hi w.young. If you want to restrict a certain user from accessing the Windows Registry Editor follow these steps.

    1. Make sure your account has Administrative Rights.
    2. Next, ensure that the User account that you wish to limit access to has an Administrator Account. If it is not, then change the account type so it has Administrative Rights.
    3. Click Start< Run and type regedit and hit enter. Now Regedit will open.
    4. Once its open navigate to the following directory:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies.
    5. Select the System subkey; create it if one does not exist.
    6. Create a new DWORD value named DisableRegistry and set it to a value of 1.
    7. Close Registry Editor.
    8. Change the users account type from administrator to limited and reboot the computer.
    9. Having done this, this user will now not be able to run regedit or merge .reg files into the registry.
