I have Windows Vista Business and everytime I go to shutdown, I use the red button on the start menu. When I go to it, it always has the little shield indicating there are updates (when you hover the screen tip says "Installs updates and then shuts down your computer. ").

    And I do so.

For the past several weeks, on a daily basis (sometimes twice a day), it proceeds to shutdown and install 6 updates. It would have to be quite a coincidence that there have been exactly 6 new updates every single time I've started up my laptop.

This leaves me with the question, why are these updates not being kept in that they have to keep being updated?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi OhBoy614, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try this, click Start< My Computer and browse to the following directory C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download. This folder is where Windows downloads all of your Windows Updates. Delete all the contents of the download folder but don't delete the download folder itself. After you remove the contents of the download folder empty your recycle bin and reboot the computer. See if Windows still offers those same Windows Updates or not.

Thanks for the idea, but a few days later and it's still doing the same 6 updates. Could IE7 have something to do with it?

Its possible, but it also depends on the kind of Windows Updates that are being installed. Read this, How to Hide Updates in Windows Vista.

BTW is your computer running Windows Vista Service Pack 2?
