In Autoruns, you can right click on any entry and click "Delete ", but I don't recommend it.
I don't remove entries, either. Just in case.
Since they're not checked, they don't run and that's good enough.

As for upgrading to Win 7, IMHO, don't do it.
Vista and Win 7 are based on a very same code and the differences are really minimal.
I don't like upgrades anyway. Either clean install, or nothing.
I'm not upgrading my Vista, either.
If I buy a new computer, it'll surely come with Win 7.
    That's just my opinion.

    Keep us posted.

    Two more suggestions..

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.
    2. Run defrag.

    Hi Broni,

Thank you for the information and the recommendation.
To be honest, I didn't really want to upgrade to Windows 7 because I enjoy using e-mail stationary, and some of my friends like using it too and receiving it. With Windows 7 that would no longer be possible because there is no e-mail program like Outlook Express or even Windows Mail with is basically just a fancified OE anyway. And I am nowhere ready for a new computer yet. This one is only 3 years old and it runs great most of the time.

As for the defrag, I did a deep defrag less than a week ago, so I doubt that would be helpful right now. But I will get the TFC if you think it would help. I gather it removes temporary files. Windows can't do that well enough it's self??

Have a good evening, and again, thank you for all your help.

    Sandie

    Yes to both.
I suggest, you run TFC weekly.

    Hi Broni,

I have a question for you. After I installed the TFC program and ran it, I discovered that my e-mail program no longer is keeping my username and password information, even though the box is checked to store that information. Instead, every time I start my computer I have to type in my username and password to download my e-mails to my program. So now I need to know how I can reverse this? Or stop it from happening. Obviously every time I shut down my computer that information is being deleted.

Yesterday I left the machine on for about 4 hours unattended, and when I returned home, it was still up and running just fine and no freeze-up. So I think that problem is solved. Will wait a bit longer though to make sure.

    Hi Evan,

I'm using my Vista mail program, Windows Mail. I do not use Windows Live mail. I prefer having my e-mails on my computer.

Your Windows Mail account could have gotten corrupted. Try deleting and then recreating your e-mail account and see if Windows Mail remembers your password.

    Hi Guys,

I'm ready to declare my machine is fixed. I was out for at least 4 hours this morning, and when I arrived back home, the PC was up and running good as ever.

AND, when I booted up this morning, I did NOT have to put in my e-mail username and password to access my account. So that seems to be working just fine now as well.

I guess it's time to mark this thread as resolved.

Thanks so much, both of you, for all your guidance, suggestions and help.

    Sandie
