I upgraded to win7 a couple weeks ago, I have been running IE 8 on Xp with no issues, I leave my pc on all the time. the issue with win 7 is that each day I have to reboot to get IE to start working again , if I do not then when I go to an address I get the message that IE has stopped working? any advice?

Does IE stop working "after" you've been away from the pc for a while?

If so, its possible your network adaptor is going into sleepmode..Find it in device manage and disable the power saver feature.

The answer is Mozilla or Opera. IE8 is buggy with flash or any add on. Try disabling all add ons and see what happens. IE8 is too ticky for me, especially 32 BIT. Turning off network adapter to power saver only delays loading a page, a crashing browser is the direct result of Adobe. One of the days, they will get a flash add on that works in explorer.

thanks, that helps, I had mozilla but when I started school, my college classes use web pages that only work with IE, so I guess I can use firefox for everything else.

    I would try:

Running IE without add-ons. You can do that by typing iexplore.exe -extoff in Windows Start Search box and pressing [Enter].

If that keeps running fine you know the problem is caused by an add-on & then have to find which one.

If that doesn't solve it, reset IE8 to defaults. From IE's menu choose Tools > Internet Options and select the Advanced tab. Click the button labeled Reset near the bottom of that tab.

okay, so I tried disabling the add-ons and it did not work, then I changed the power settings to always on and it worked, so now my issue is what is going to sleep and causing IE to stop working?

Run this from an elevated command prompt: powercfg /energy.

Please note that the report energy-report.html is saved to the current directory, so first change that to (for example) your Desktop (cd \Users\{your user name}\Desktop)

For more information see: Using PowerCfg to Evaluate System Energy Efficiency
