Hi , have installed Windows 7 and then re-installed microsoft office. The files created previously windows 7 were not ' read only ' files but after installation of Office they are now read only. When i make alterations to a file i am unable to and it is suggested that i save under another name. when i do that it says that i cant and that i need to contact the administrator and to save in my documents. I have tried the suggested steps to remove the tick in the read only box under properties but there is no tick in that box , so what is making it a read only file . I have a number of files all re-acting the same way . Hope someone can help. thanks

First make sure you have the compatibility pack update service pak 2http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/953195
    .odt (text)
    .ods (spreadsheet)
    .odp (presentation)
These file types were added to 2007 Microsoft Office suite SP2. To open or edit OpenDocument format file types in pre-Office 2007 versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, use the ODF Add-in for Microsoft Office. To download this add-in, visit the following
    http://odf-converter.sourceforge.net/download.html#hDownloadOffice (http://odf-converter.sourceforge.net/download.html#hDownloadOffice)

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack SP2 does not add support for either the .pdf (Adobe) or .xps (Microsoft) file type to pre-Office 2007 versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. To view and generate .xps files, use the Microsoft XPS viewer or Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack. These products are supported in Windows Vista, in Windows XP, and in Windows Server 2003. To download these products, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx)
Windows 7 adds the support in WordPad for the .docx odt.file types.
