Hi every time I start up my computer it seems to be stuck in safe mode? Print and icons are large and pictures are not normal as background for desktop. The pictures are black and red and kind of look like negatives. Screens are have dots. When I restart it goes to a screen that says

    1Normal
    2 bootleg
    3 safe mode
    4 stet by step confirmation.

If I don't pick one it logs on to windows and as I said looks like it is in safe mode. I can use all my options though.
If I pick a different number it still does the same thing.
    Any suggestions. Thank you.

Hello Joannec and welcome to WindowsBBS. If you are starting in Safe Mode it should say so in the corners of the screen.

It sounds like your monitor resolution is set in VGA mode or has been changed to a lower resolution/color setting. Try this:

Right click on your desktop, click on properties, then click on the "Settings" tab. In the "Colors" drop down box, select "True Color (32 bit)" and in the "Screen Area" box move the slider to either 800 by 600 pixels or 1024 by 768 pixels, whatever you prefer. Click apply and accept the changes.

I have the same problem...and have tried the solution that was suggested.....after changing my display settings it says "you must re-start your computer to have the change in settings take effect ". When I do that my computer goes to try and re-boot...I have a black screen except for the phrase "Windows is now restarting.... ". It just sits there and doesn't re-start.

PeteG, please don't ask questions in another person's thread. It is known as hijacking.

You have started your own thread. You can post as many times as you like there. I will see if I can reply in that thread.

Just for the point "It just sits there and doesn't restart ", instead of restarting, choose to Shut Down, then power it back up again.

same problem...re-starts in funky colored screen with big icons and words....

[Edit by Moderator: Yes PetG, but that could be caused by many reasons. You can post a link in your thread that this problem seems similar. Please let joannec respond if he/she would like to, don't take control of somebody else's thread to solve the problem on your computer. If my response in your thread did not have any effect, please post there and explain why.

I will delete any further requests for help apart from the thread starter (joannec).

    Post/Reply in your own thread.

Your video drivers are corrupted, and windows has defaulted to a 16 color layout. This is not the same as 16 bit color.
