I just purchased a laptop with Windows 7 and I am sure there will be more features that I will dislike, but for now my concern is programs and files opening when I pause over them. Is there a way to turn this off? It's driving me up a wall.

Uncheck Open submenus when I pause on them with the mouse pointer under Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Start Menu tab > Customize button.

If you mean you're using the touch pad and things open when you put the cursor on them, you can disable that somewhere in your mouse software. Or, if there is an icon in the tray, right click it and see what's available there. I'm not sure what it would be called on yours though. Look for something like tapping or some such thing.

It sounds like you might be tapping the pad and not realizing it. Some of them are quite sensitive when it comes to this.

Thanks Zander you are probably right. I will be more careful. I had already done what Arie suggested
