this is a problem im really scared about but rarely happens.

i almost never turn off my machine. it's usually on and occasionally i reboot, of course.

however if i DO turn it off than sometimes when i try to turn it ON it doesnt always do it smoothly. the machine starts running (screen is black) and i can hear the vent spinning and after 3-7 seconds it stops and it sounds like the computer was shut down and it tried to boot up again. all this without me ever seeing a single pixel light up on the screen. it's black.
this can happen a few times while my computer is trying to boot up - it will try, vent spinning, it fails and shuts down and automatically trying to boot up again.

after a few tries (maybe 5 or 6) it succeeds and boots up and everything is working fine.

    my specs -

    win XP SP3
    2GB ram
Q6600 slightly OCed to about 2.6GHZ
    radeon 4870 512mb

im scared that one day i will not be able to get the computer running and since my work involves it - this might be a serious issue...

any advice or a suggestion will be welcomed. thanks :)

Have you recently increased the draw on your power supply? You might want to consider it is failing either way.

now would also be a good time you clean your case- and fans of dust.

ALWAYS run your systems on pure-power of an APC Smart UPS.

I agree with notzofram. After recent experiences I would renew the PSU with something large enough to handle the load. Neil.:D

    hi again.

my native language isnt english AND im not a computer savvee so im not sure what u meant.

what do u mean "increase the draw on the power supply "? i havent touched the power supply so im not sure what that means.
also what does "run your systems on pure-power of an APC Smart UPS" mean?
what is APC? i bet it ain't "armored personel carrier ", huh?
and what is UPS? is that the powers supply?

my GPU is slightly OCed. slightly. either way i cant see why it would make it hard for the machine to boot. the GPU isnt even running when the computer is rebooting. windows isnt even up yet...
****, BIOS isnt even up yet.

by increasing the draw on the power supply he is referring to having added more components that use power from the PSU (power supply).
UPS is a uninterrupted power supply it is a unit that is connected to your power source (power plug on wall) and your PC and it stores power and filters the power depending on the quality of the unit to minimal spikes of power, if you happen to have a power failure a UPS will supply you long enough with power to turn off your system normally and hence avoid damage to your system.
    Hope this helps.
