    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

It would be a good idea to get rid of the virus.
Do you have a virus scanner?
There are several on-line scanners if you don't have one.

I have a virus scanner now and things seem to be okay in that area. As far as "cleaning up" my computer I'm wondering how to uninstall and reinstall everything so my computer runs better.

I'm guessing you mean restore it to "factory settings" like the day you got it???

If so, you'll probably want to backup important info like emails and word docs etc...

The manual that came with it should have a section about restoring it to factory. Odds are you press something like F11 during boot up.

My laptop (Toshiba Satellite) came with a pair of recovery disk to boot from to recover to original factory settings as well as a recovery partition. there is also a built in feature to create recovery disks. if you can't access the recovery from your boot screen you can fall back on these disks. Back-up your data to an external drive!

Sometimes it can be useful to backup your computer with something like Acronis, which lets you restore partitions or full disks.

Best make a "˜clean’ backup immediately (to have it as new as you can) or remove the virus and then do the backup so you can restore this otherwise you will restore the virus if it was on your PC when you did the backup.

Acronis also has bootable media, which can backup and restore computer disks or partitions to a USB storage device.
