    Hi everybody,

I had a big crisis last night. I corrupted my system file & had to do a system repair procedure from the Win xp cd. I tried to use the recovery console to do a system restore using: cd, cd system~1, cd _resto~1, but I got the message it could not find that _resto~1 file. I guess that means that I had no valid restore points. My system restore has not been functional for some time now.

Anyway, I lost a very extensive Favorites file. :(: eek: :( No backup. Tears.

My question is: Is there any chance for me to somehow retreive that Favorites file? My computer skills are intermediate at best. I do not have the skills or resources to pull my HD & install it in another computer to pull off the files - in the small chance that they have not been corrupted yet.

    Any Ideas?????

    Regards,

    Jerry

See if your Favorites still exist by doing this:
Click Start - then Scroll up to Search then Click on For Files or Folders another window will open - Click on the All files and folders
In the All Files and Folders: Type in Favorites and Press the Search Button.

It should find Favorites. Look at the one with a Yellow Star to the left of it and Double Click on it.
Does it open and show all the Favorites you had ?

    Hi again Sp,

You deserve a GOLD STAR for this one!!!! There are 4 favorites with a star to the left -- two dated today as date modified -- two dated 10/06/07 as date modified.

The one last modified today is in c:\Documents & Settings\User & contains 4,333 files, 939 folders. That probably has them all. :) Yeah!!! :)

The 2nd one last modified today is in c:\Documents & Settings\Jerry & contains 12files, 9 folders. That is the one I started today when I couldn't find the other one.

What do I need to do to get that big file to show up in IE?? I also probably need to do something to make sure all my future additions go into the big file & not the small file.

Note, I am close to updating my Windows from sp2 to sp3. I will follow that shortly with an update from IE6 to IE8. Should I wait until after I update Windows & IE to make the move in Favorites?

Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much SP -- I really appreciate your help.

    Regards,

    Jerry

If the small file is showing up in IE then just copy and paste the large file into the small file.

    Well,

I copied the big file into the small file & guess what -- none of the links in the big file are showing up in the IE Favorites tab. Not sure what is going on.

There has to be a more efficient way to do this. My big file is 3.41 mb & it took ~ 10 mins to complete the copy/paste.

    Any other ideas??

    Jerry

    Jerry:
Double click on My Couputer to open it up.
Then Double Click on the C: Drive.
Double Click on the Documents and Settings folder.
Then Double Click on c:\Documents & Settings\Jerry (is this where the missing favorites are at ?)
Or are they in c:\Documents & Settings\User (or are they in this one ?)
Are you logged in as Jerry ?
