After 3 wks of searching, seems my problem is unique & so I joined this forum hoping to get farther than I have so far. 2 yrs ago bought a Classic DiskGo flash drive, Edge Tech Corp. My Compaq Presario has Win 98fe os. DiskGo requires 98SE. Edge Tech online tech provided me two url links: one to nusb33e.exe driver for 98se & another apparently (I can't remember) to a patch that made my os compatible with se usb driver without me having to upgrade or update my FE to SE. Have used the flash drive for 2 yrs without a glitch.

Trying to make long story short: had to restore Windows & all factory software with Compaq Restore CD & lost all files foolishly "backed up" on the DiskGo flash drive. Now I cannot access flash drive. In meantime also bought a Xerox Phaser printer compatible with 98SE & whatever (patch?) I downloaded made my printer work on my fe-based computer. Since then Xerox quit providing soft SE driver on their website--which I have on the flash drive.

See my catch 22? Seems I need to install a 98fe to 98se update or upgrade to access the DiskGo to reinstall the printer driver. I found a few, but afraid my nicely and smoothly running fe system as is with IE6 & Foxfire browsers installed & all Windows updates will get all messed up & I'll be enslaved to this machine another lifetime of weeks looking for & downloading SE fixes.

I also downloaded (did not yet install) the Windows 98fe SvcPack1 (somewhere I read it has the usb components contained in SE upgrade but am unsure about that ).

Can anyone say what might be best solution for this particular predicament. Install Win98 SE update? Or SE upgrade? Can I be choosy about what the upgrade installs? Or does anyone know where I might even find the patch and which one I evidently got 2 yrs ago which obviated upgrading from fe to se? Whew. Hope I didn't exhaust everybody's interest. Thanks, Donna

    G'Day dmv48,

It seems obvious that the USB drive "Classic DiskGo flash drive, Edge Tech Corp." aught to be accessible from another OS system such as XP, from which you could then burn a standard CD with the drivers on it and then access the CD on your 98fe or 98se system, ..... or not?

check the website for drivers for your usb flash drive
some do, some do not have drivers
If your particular model does not seem to have available drivers check the older ( smaller) models in the same model line - they may list some

PCBUGFIXER did exactly that! Now got my drivers back and backed up on a CD and everything's copacetic. Plus got burning software (Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum) installed which works fine with my Digital Research 52x24x52 CD RW drive. Incidentally--I am using a Xerox laser printer specifically for Vista (ME driver I had to initiallydownload no longer available on Xerox website) and the DiskGo flash stick for 98SE on a 98FE platform. Cannot get those SE & ME drivers anymore configured to work on 98FE (without upgrading OS) and so it was critical I got access to my flash drive with the downloaded drivers on it. And the solution really was so simple, as you described.
