Well. I've solved the problem on my system.

I went to unshare the drive prior to carrying out your suggestion and noticed that the 'who to share with' box still just had my name in it.

So I selected everyone, pressed share, and then went back in to have a look. Of course it should have been obvious that you have to press the 'add' button but selecting 'everyone' and then pressing share had seemed the obvious thing to do.

Not helped, of course, by microsoft not actually mentioning when you do press the share button that you haven't actually set the directory to share with anyone other than yourself.

I hope this may help someone else (who happens to make the same daft mistake I did.)

    Thanks for the input!

Are you sharing folders or partitions?

This was just a folder but I thought you might have the same problem.

Although it's perfectly obvious once you've twigged what's going on the dialogue box in question is unusually arranged (compared with many thousands of others) in that what would normally be marked th 'OK' button is marked 'share' which tends to make you feel it's the one to press - especially once you have 'everyone' highlighted in the drop down box.

Somehow I don't think that I am looking in the right place. Here is a screen shot of the windows I went through to share the partitions

Here is a link to a screen shot of my permission settings

Finally got it resolved with thanks to a colleague - I wasn't looking at the Security Tab - When I did "Everyone" was not there - Once I added Everyone and set permissions to Full Control it worked.

Thanks to everyone for their input

    Glad you got it sorted.

The whole file sharing thing is just one huge mess now.

What MS need to do is provide some sort of check program that will go through the whole list of settings and tell you where you are locking people out.
