I want to dual boot win 7 64bit with vista. When i try to install win 7 in the other partition, after the logo shows up , it crashes with an error of system_service_exception(3B). It installed once before and worked for awhile, but now it does not seem to install. What could be the issue?

Here is the message click here which indicates a graphics driver and excessive paging. How much RAM is installed and what is the size of the partition where you’re installing Windows 7?

The size of the partition is 135GB and amount of ram that is being used 4GB. I do not know if this matters, but for the ram Im using two different brands(corsair and nanya) if that matters.

Also sometimes instead of getting the system_service_exception, I might receive a page fault in nonpaged area.

I suggest you try with just one stick of RAM, then depending upon the outcome switch to the other stick.

If i do that and it works, then would that mean that one of the ram sticks is bad which i would need to replace.

Yes, this matters & likely the cause of your problems.

I did not think that it would matter since both were 800 MHz PC6400

Oh, good chance it still matters. Same memory chip(s)? Same latency? Try running with 1 pair & you'll quickly find out ;)

I took the nanya cards out and left the corsairs in and there was no blue screen however when I tried to install it it gave me an error saying that one of the files is corrupt and cannot install and an error code. I believe the corrupt error could just be a bad copy. I am unsure at this point what latency is with my current corsairs, but if I get new corsairs do they need to be the same latency as the current ones or am I able to get different latency.
In yout opinion which latency would be better 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-18?

According to Corsair's Memory Configuration tool, your Dell takes VS1GB667D2, which is DDR2-667 (PC2-5300), Size 1GB, Latency 5-5-5-15

    Then Dell shows these.

    4-4-4-12 is quicker.

But you have to remember that being a Dell machine I don't know how much control you would have over the memory voltage etc.

I have a crucial kit in one of my machines which is rated at DDR2 800mhz 4-4-4-12 timings. But to achieve this it must run at 2.2 volts. But if I run it at the standard 1.8 volts it will only run at DDR2 800mhz 5-5-5-18.

So if you buy an expensive Corsair memory kit it won't probably run at advertised speeds due to the Dell bios not having as much granular control as say a Gigabyte performance board.

Like Arie said you might be severely limited in what speeds your memory will run at and spending lots more on a performance kit would be a waste of cash and could make your system unstable. :)

I need to double check, but i believe that the Nanya is 5-5-5-12 and the corsair is 5-5-5-18.

I burned three discs of win 7. I tried each one. One gives me an 0x80070570 error during installation. Second one gave ntfs.sys page fault in nonpaged area during installation. Third one gave me bad_pool_header after the 7 logo showed. I had my current corsairs at 1 & 2 and nanya in slots 3&4. I received the new corsairs and placed it in 1 &2 and replaced the nanya with my current ones at 3 & 4.

I am not sure if this may help with the problem or not but when I had win 7 working a month or two ago when I tried to extract an archive from a disc to the desktop, it would say that certain files in the archive became corrupt. I tried extracting the same archive again and it was not the same files that it mentioned during the previous extraction. However, when I extracted those same files from the disc on my current OS, there are no problems. Could it be that it is not reading the drives properly?

Do you have a spare DVD drive you can try in the machine as this could be the problem?

Also as mentioned in a previous post have you tried installing with just one stick of ram?

Have you installed the latest bios on your machine from the dell website?

When the computer starts up it will tell you what revision the bios is it will be something like A05.

The first thing I would probably try in your situation would be checking the bios.

If you post back what bios version is installed I can help you locate the right one for your machine.

Can you please post your service tag from the machine as it will help us identify it.

If you still need the service tag, I will post it. I did check dell with the bios and it stated that current version to install is A06 which I did. My previous version is A03. When you mean just one ram stick do you mean remove the three other ram sticks out and leave one. Would there be an error cause I thought you need 2 sticks in since it is ddr2? Also I found a way to install the os with my usb flash drive and it also gave me the page fault error.

I mean just try and install with one stick of memory in.

It does not matter that you have one stick in, DDR2 is just the type of memory. If you have two sticks in it will just allow you to run them in dual channel mode. If you have only one stick in it will just run in single channel mode which is fine for the installation.
