    Hello,
I received an Email two days ago from the addressee Ilovemeecestopieces@KDSI.com.
When I pressed REPLY and tried to contact the sender and ask who it was, I got a return message from the NET stating that this was not a valid Email address.
Since then my computer will not shut down and it will not defrag and I suppose more fun stuff is on the way.
Is anybody aware of this virus?
Is there a web site I can go to, to download a cure?
Or is there a procedure I can do to manually remove this thing?
    I would appreciate any informati

Have you run a virus scan?

There are online virus scans out there Panda antivirus, Grisoft and there are more. Search the Windows 98 board (the one we're on now) for a thread called "big problems...help please..." I believe it was the first reply Daizy has some online virus scanners listed & they are actually links to their websites. That would be my first step to scan & rule out a virus or trojan. Next I would use Ad-aware yo clean out the spyware. If problems still persist then I'would repair Windows.

I also delete ANY E-Mail that isn't from someone I know or a valid address (such as windowsbbs.com) or doesn't have a subject. Even still I run Norton 2002 fully updated & scan every peice of mail I recieve & send. I recieved 3 infected emails last week alone but there's no 100% safe way to be I just take every precaution that I can to prevent as much infection as possible

Brett.......I have Norton 2001 and everytime I go to run a scan it simply pops off the screen and nothing happens. Maybe it ended up an appetizer for this virus.
Bubba.......I will check out the info you gave me and see if there is any solutions I can use. Thanks.
Plantsdowne......It had no message just some names,,,,Tricia Bright, Harold Bright and a few more AND an attachment. I am certain when I tried to download the attachment that is when it came in. Because as soon as I downloaded the attachment and said I wanted to got to the location a exe indicator appeared as the downloaded attachment when I tried to read or enter the box it started and then popped off and nothing happened. So now I need a way to trace it and find it and get it out of the infected areas. I did it manually with a SirCam Virus a few years ago. If I knew what I was looking for I could maybe repeat the process??????

Plantdowne......Zephyr.......I downloaded the free version of Grisoft AntiVirus from the site and upon it's initial run A big RED box appeared with these Words.
    VIRUS FOUND

    I-WORM/Bugbear
    located in C:\WINDOWS\START\
    MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP\QOC.EXE

Then another gray box appeared and this is what was contained.
Access to specified device, path or file is denied.

How can I get to this and eliminate it???????

Zephyr.........I went to the Grisoft site and downloaded the free AntiVirus. When I first ran it it identified the virus and the fact thast it had been found in 3 files. I pressed OK to have it remove the Virus. However my defrag ME still won't defrag. It was fine before the virus.
So I went to the Symantec site you sent me to and they mentioned that running the tool in Safe Mode was recommended.
This is my next plan. I will save the tool to my floppy and try to run it after I reboot in Safe Mode.

Zephyr.........I did run the tool in Safe Mode and it said it did not find the Bugbear virus.
My original problem is still there.
Everytime I try to Defrag, it won't.
Then I check my registry with Norton Utilities Win Doctor.
    Everytime I run it after boot up it says;
...........invalid ActiveX/COM entries (22 problems). The ActiveX/COM sections of your Windows Registry contain one or more invalid entries. This can cause documents to open improperly, aplications not to run, or your computer to crash.

So,,,, I click on Repair All. and seemingly it repairs the 22 problems.
However everytime I boot up the same thing happens.
Could I have a virus lodged in my startup menu????
Or is my registry damaged????? Or is it something else??????

    OK........when I press Control,.Alt,Delete I find I have 30 titles in my System tray.
I am not familiar with many of the titles.
A short time ago I only had 12 to 15 titles in the list.
I don't know if it means anything to the problem I am kind of searching thru any possibility.

One more anomaly........Everytime I log on to the internet to leave a message I go back and run the Norton Utilities Win Doctor and those same 22 problems have reappeared.
    Does anyone know why??????????
