This is probably just nit-picky, but clutter bothers me, and I cannot figure out how to clear this up on my own.

"My Config" in MR Tech's Toolkit shows three separate entries for Java Console: 6.0.12, 6.0.13, and 6.0.16.

I always uninstall the older version of Java before installing a new version, and I also always run RegSeeker, to delete all instances of "Java" in the registry. So why am I still ending up with old versions of the Java Console plugin in Firefox, especially considering I never asked for the plugin to be installed in the first place (although were I to carefully read Sun's EULA, I would undoubtedly find that I had agreed to allow the Console's installation)?

It annoys me in principle when programs add hidden plugins, so if I had a choice, I would just as soon uninstall all three versions. But perhaps the thing actually serves a purpose (such as??), in which case - can anyone tell me how to at least get rid of the older versions?

    Thanks!

Firefox has a plugin dir and it will contain the java dlls. Find the latest one by date and delete the rest.

    Tony ...

Not necessarily. About:plugins lists all sorts of plugins used by FF, but my FF Plugins folder contains only the Mozilla default plugin and a bunch of QuickTime plugins. On my system, the Java plugins are contained in the C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin folder.

I suggest that you download JavaRa (1.15 is current) and run it. It runs from its own folder, so no installation is required. It will clean out all Java files except the current version (1.6.0_16-b01). It creates a logfile on the root of the C: drive telling you what it's removed, but that's easily deleted after you read it.

    .
I have had nothing but trouble with this version. I got Error: 25099. Unzipping Core Files Failed, and the installation goes back to square 1. I have tried with different downloads from the Java site, at least, three times, in the past week.
As for the RA, after five minutes of going around in circles, I gave up.
    Any suggestion?
In any event, I go to the Add/Remove, and uninstall the older versions.
