    Hi All,

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my PC after running Windows XP on it. I did a fresh install and now I'm having issues with my sound card.

In the past after formatting my computer and installing Windows XP, I would pop in a CD I got with my computer labelled "ASUS P5 Series Intel 925/915 Chipset Series Support CD Rev.78.14" and it would allow me to install the drivers for the USB drives and audio card.

This time however, after putting the CD in, it gives me the message:

"ASUS Support CD do not support this Windows OS Version "

I can't find the place to download the drivers for my audio card...can someone help me! I've included my computer specs below.

Asus haven't made Vista drivers for that motherboard (assuming it is the P5GD2-Deluxe listed in that CPU-Z readout).

I can't find the specifications for the P5GD2-Deluxe at Asus. The Windows XP drivers list the Audio as Cmedia CMI9880
I found that on the Russian Asus forums. Try installing the Windows XP drivers.

If you want to try a BIOS upgrade, check (and double-check) that the motherboard is identified correctly. It is best done by reading the model number on the motherboard itself.

Start reading at Asus. From that information go to
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
    and look up Motherboards -> Socket775 -> P5GD2 Deluxe.

PS I am moving this thread to Hardware. If you identify the motherboard correctly, put the information in your WindowsBBS user profile (My System). [Try the System Information programs in my signature.]

    Thanks for your help mattman!

I tried installing the XP drivers, with no luck. The device no longer says: "No Audio Output Device is Installed" and instead shows the speaker icon, but no sounds comes out - and the levels don't move when sounds is being played on my computer.

When doing a BIOS upgrade, can I upgrade to the newest version available? (in this case the 1008) or do I need to select the one that is MY motherboard...Right now the current BIOS version that I'm using is 1005.003?

    Thanks!

My style, but maybe not yours. If there are driver problems, I go into Device Manager and uninstall them. When you reboot it will probably ask you where to find the drivers, you then need to point the wizard to a set of drivers (that might be the original drivers disk or some that you have downloaded and "unwrapped" (decompressed).

You will probably need to start trying to install drivers manually, since there seems to be no Vista drivers provided. You can try uninstalling and installing manually (see the options during driver installation), the drivers don't work now.

I would exhaust driver options before doing a BIOS upgrade, but C-Media suggest it could help. You can go to 1008, that will include all the previous upgrades. Don't use a Beta BIOS. Just make sure you are using the correct BIOS for your motherboard. Asus have good instructions, read through them carefully.
