    Hi all,

Lately, SeaMonkey (v. 1.1.18) has been acting weird. Google is my homepage and when I first crank up SM the "Google" comes up and the search box, but that's all. After an interval of time (it varies between a few seconds to over 20 seconds) the rest of Google slowly fades into view. Subsequent restarts are complete and instantaneous.

I do not have, nor ever had, Fade Effects enabled in XP. Plus, I've noticed that fonts and type sizes have changed and aren't consistent with XP. Plus, I've noticed that in "Preferences" over a dozen of the boxes are too small and the info in the boxes are cut off; though the OK, Cancel, and Help boxes are still at the bottom. Even the Preferences box is too small and I can't resize it.

Is there a fix, or should I reinstall?

And, I noticed that SM 2.0 is 3MB smaller than previous releases. Any idea as to why it's so much smaller? Have features been left out? Does it still have a Mail Client?

Since I am not using Google as homepage, I would not know. If, I call up Google from the Search box, the page looks normal. I am using three tabs, none of them Google, with SM1.1.8.
Indeed, the SM2.0 install file is 2.6 MB smaller than SM1.1.8. It would take quite a bit of looking around to find out if there is any difference to account for the smaller size.
The install SM2.0 is about 5 MB smaller than 1.1.8, and it is based on Firefox3.5.4. It has a Mail Client like 1.1.8, and it behaves more like Firefox for the browser part.
I have both SMs installed. The are, automatically, installed in separate directories.
If the shortcut is renamed from the original SeaMonkey, you would see two shortcuts.
If you don't rename the existing shortcut, you will have to do some work, as I had to do.

    Hi Westside,

Thanks for the info. However, I'd still like to know why the Preferences Box is so much smaller and how (or if) I can resize it; and why the items in the different settings boxes are cut off?

I've re-installed SM a couple of times and it made no difference.

You can't resize the box. However, the Pref.box of my 2.0 is a tad larger than 1.1.8.
Nothing is cut off. I am trying to figure out why you have a problem, aside from the fact that you did not specify how you did the upgrade, or if you have, still, both versions, or you tried to use a profile imported from 1.1.8.
I have been working with the nightlies since they, first, came out about three years ago. So, I had an existing profile, quite different from that of 1.1.x.
Going back to my previous reply, I noticed that my 2.0 did not have, much, in the Plugins folder. When I copied the 1.1.8 plugins folder, and pasted into the 2.0 directory, the size of the two versions was about the same. I saw one difference, though, there is no GRE setup folder in 2.0, only grefprefs.

    Hi Westside,

I'm trying to figure out why I have the problem, too. As far as upgrading, I've done the same thing since my second version of SeaMonkey: Add\Remove Programs; Uninstall SeaMonkey (except for the last screen that says "Not all files in the SeaMonkey folder were deleted . . ., which I click "No "); and then proceed to install all updated versions. Which in this case I did what I always do when I reinstall SM trying to get the Prefs box to behave. And, no, I've always had only one version of SM at a time. Also, my profile has always been the same throughout all versions.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but, I have SeaMonkey on my D drive and I have my Mozilla Mail\Profile on my D drive also. The Mozilla.org file is on the C drive, though. It's been this way and working since Netscape 4.xx.

I'm really in a quandary as to why and how the boxes got smaller and what I can do to "fix" it as reinstalls haven't worked.

Are you using the -p switch to recall the correct profile? This would be necessary, if you have your profile in a different drive.
Still, I don't know why you would have the problems described. It seems to me that it may be a profile issue, and not a program problem.

    Hi Westside,

I found a fix (or, rather, it was given to me) and it works perfectly: Preference Menu Resizer

So, now I know I'm not the only one who's had the same problem. :p
