Want to fully uninstall xp and os. I am planning to to go to windows 7, have been trying to resolve issues (see previous threads), maybe to many issues, tired of trying to correct one issue at a time. THIS was not caused by viruses or similiar type problems. Not really worried about personal data, nothing of major importance. Using mozilla right now, no issues. Problems caused by other people, who I thought knew what they were doing. Do not want answers for previous threads, appreciated help, but just to time consuming.

Since you CAN'T Upgrade XP to Win7 - meaning Win 7 will automatically wipe out all info on your hard drive - pop in your win 7 dvd and let er rip;)

    what system specs ?

Hi - you have a XP era system ? may I ask what vendor and model.

do you use any non-oem system related devices ?

I have no idea of your tech nous , but just in case , for a native XP system, Windows 7 install can only be run from dvd media , (for all practicable purposes) so you will need at least a dvd-rom drive.
If you acquire the online downloaded setup file you will need a dvd-writer

Also Windows 7 not install with less than 512MB total installed ram memory

using an upgrade license you will need the oem or full retail XP restore/recovery disk of the previously activated XP license, but is not required if using a "stand-alone" version license (Fully Packaged product Windows license)

As for the required clean install, is fiddly to execute but I recommend first zeroing out the drive - basically erasing all data at a low level using an independent DOS maintenance tool supplied by the drive vendor
The hard drive model can be found in device manager - then goggle for the vendor and support site
These tools can also test and repair bad sectors if possible and advise if the drive is bad
You will also need to be able to enter BIOS setup and configure for 1st boot= a-drive if required
Most of these tools use legacy a-drive diskettes created by a vendor tool creator - although some have a bootable cd option
