I want to block the ads that show on Yahoo, and AccuWeather, so I'm thinking if I stop flash player this will kill them.
How do I do this, and is my reasoning accurate?

Hi chas. You don't need to block flash player to block ads on websites. Download and install MVP Hosts File. That should block most if not all the advertising on most websites.

If you are using Firefox download and install "NoScript ".

It is a pain when you first start to use it, but it will stop surprises when you visit a web site. If you need scripts or flash for a particular you can turn it on temporary or permanently.

    Browser is FF
I occasionally use IE. I have it blocked in IE through Software Blaster. I just don't want to continue to stack more startups and eat into my memory.

Yes if you want to block flash videos then yes disabling flash player will have those videos not show up. To disable flash player you can disable the flash player add-on. Also do you have Spyware Blaster installed?

    Yes, Spyware Blaster is on.
How do I disable Flash Player?
Will disabling it also remove the banners, or do I have to keep MVP Host for that? I'm using a lot of memory right now, and would like to cut back on usage.

If you have Adblock Plus installed in Firefox add *pagead* to it's list. Those are Google ads.

I don't use Adblock, as I want to avoid any more add-ons.
How do I just disable Flash Player?

Just open Add-ons, highlight the Flash plug-in and click the Disable button.

In Spyware Blaster click Tools< Flash Killer. Click the checkbox that says Disable and block Macromedia Flash in Internet Explorer. I would also keep the MVP HOSTS file installed as that will help secure your computer against malware.

In FF > Tools > AddOns > Plugins > Shockwave Flash > disable button.
In IE > Tools > Manage AdOns > Show: Addons that have been used by IE > select Shockwave Flash > Disable radio button.

    Again,
Nothing else from Adobe. No Shockwave, no Flash Player.

Evan, I ticked the flash killer in Spyware Blaster, just to see what would happen, and it has no effect on FF.

Banner ads just popped back up again, even though I'm using MVP and made no changes to the computer. Not even a restart.
    Any explanations?

After a restart the banners are being blocked again.
Anyone know what's up w/ this?
Has this ever happened to you Evan?

So you don't have Flash in FF then... simple?

In my system it is just called Shockwave Flash Object & listed under Adobe Systems Incorporated.

    No Shockwave, no flash.
    Any other thoughts?
