I have many folders and subfolders in my FAVORITES in Internet Explorer 7. Now I cannot add any additional webpages (or, at least they do not show up when I click on the subfolder into which I have tried to save a new webpage; however, when I try to save it a second time, I get the message that I have already saved it; yet, I don't know how to view it). Is there a limit to the number of favorites I can save? Is there a way to get around my problem. Thanks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

As I recall, the max number of faorites is something like 763.

I hope this is where I can send a thank you to Steve R. Jones, BBS staff member, for replying to my query whether there is a limit to the number of FAVORITES you can have in Internet Explorer 7. (He said yes, that he thought it was ~ 753.) I was having problems not being able to add additional favorites, but, when I tried to add the same webpage to the same folder/subfolder a second time, I got the message “the name you have entered already exists on your Favorites menu: Would you like to override it?” The name of the webpage was not visible, so I was confused when the message indicated that the name was in my Favorites.

I think that in fact I must have exceeded the maximum number of Favorites, for when I deleted some web pages from a folder, or even an entire folder, some of the previously "invisible" links I had tried to add DID appear. It also seems that when I deleted some links ( "favorites "), then I could add new links to folders that had names starting with letters in the alphabet that preceded the deleted folders, but I still could not add favorites to folders that had names beginning with letters in the alphabet that occurred after the deleted folder. For example, I deleted a folder, named "Microsoft ", which contained a number of links. I then could add new links to a folder called "Computers ", but still could not add new links in a folder called "Pets." When I deleted more links in folders that had names that come before "P" in the alphabet, then I could add (and see) links I added to Pets.

I need to make sure what I have said holds, but for now it looks like my problem was having too many favorites. So, thanks, Steve. mmplatt

I currently have 1460 favorites in 229 folders. Never had a problem adding or deleting or accessing any of them.
Currently with IE 8 (on XP pro SP3), but the list was the about the same when I was running IE 7 (and IE 6).

Maybe if you have deeply nested subfolders that might be a problem. Mine are only 2 deep.

I was also wondering where Steve got that number from. My Favorites folder shows 1,039 files in 114 folders...

That's only about sorting in alphabetical order, not the number you can save.

OP's problem is most likely caused by either too many nested folders, or a link that's past a certain number of characters.
