    I have problem,

    I need data-backup! I have a-lot-of 1.44MB FDD, around 1000 Disk in my store.

(Q1) Now where can found FDD device ?

(Q2) that FDD device is via "USB I/O" or real mother-board "FDD I/O" ?

    (Q3) that cost around ?

(Q4) I check to copy FULL 1.44MB FDD data to harddrive, around <3mins.
But If data is not-completed, sector/tract/cylinder ERROR, how to fix this problem?

    (Q5) I check CMD: "xcopy /p /e /v /c" is more-safy to backup data, but if
sector/tract/cylinder ERROR, any method to "auto-retry(s)" again,
"automatic to retry 99 times , after 99 times, tell me error!
this copy method is 3rd program ?

(Q6) I try "sector/tract/cylinder ERROR" FDD, normal try 2-3 times, that DATA can success copy to HDD.
Why "retry" , and "retry" , and DONE.! I verify that "SIZE ", is same size!

(Q7) I calc. "1 hour" can doing "12" FDD disk copy, is very manual method.
But that FDD device, 5 hours doing around 60 disk, that DEVICE is fine? no problem ?

    Any idea please!

You can't be serious! You can't back up anything useful on a floppy! It only holds 1.4MB, if you are lucky one or two digital pictures.

Forget about it! Get an external USB/eSATA hard drive for your backup.

I would suggest you use a zip program such as WinRar, Power Archiver, WinZip or 7-zip to create one zipped archive of all the data you want to backup, then install a file splitter, such as GSplit (there are other file splitters available too) to automatically split the archive into pieces that will fit on a floppy. Number the floppy disks as each is filled.

This freeware app claims to repair damaged floppy disks.

    Good luck!

    Thanks noahdfear,

that stroge problem is no problem. because

ONE 1.44MB disk to HDD only 2MB,
ONE 650MB CD to HDD only 1GB,

My destination drive is 1TB. Very Enougt.

Now, main point is how to verify that file is same size, no problem, is RAW copy ?

I think emia wants to backup the data already on a 1000 floppies to something more permanent - from floppies, not to them.

Except for the time involved, I don't see this as a problem. You have a 1000 floppies and you want to backup the data on them. If that data is important, I don't see that as a waste of time.

The problem is going to be the integrity of the data. Like ALL magnetic storage media, the data stored on it does not last forever, unless it is "refreshed ". Over time, the alignment of the particles (which determines the 1s and 0s) changes (loses integrity) and the data becomes corrupt. This has always been a problem with floppies. This is made worse when the floppies are stacked together as the plastic case around the floppy disk does not shield the disk from adjacent magnetic fields, such as from other nearby floppies. The magnetism "bleeds" through, in effect, altering the data. So tell your boss to NOT expect many of the floppies to be readable, and remind him this backup process should have been done YEARS ago and you don't expect many of the floppies to be readable.

I would first try to back up the floppies to a hard disk, and work your way through the pile, tossing any the floppy drive cannot read. I expect your discard pile will soon be larger than the good pile.

    Good luck.

I would not waste any money on a "for pay" product for this project. Instead, I recommend you check out Recuva, from the makers of CCleaner, or Restoration. But still, all these programs do is recover data the system can no longer find - typically because the data locations have been marked as available (as happens when you delete a file - it does not actually get deleted).

    Sorry, I sound:

    D1 = source: DAMAGE HARDDISK
    D2 = destination: New HardDisk

Do you listen that Data Repair Center can doing:
copy that D1 image to D2, also known as a mirror.

When Done, Try use D2 to recovey data.

If HDD can doing this recovey step,

(Q1) that Floppy Disk/CDR can same case to recovey data?

(Q2) Do you listen that PCDOS-XDF
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Extended_Density_Format
I found that XDF, USB attached floppy drives cannot read XDF formatted media.
Where can found real FDD Device support motherboard.?

    Please!

Your story is changing now. Damaged hard disk? Mirroring hard disks? XDF format? I have no clue what you are doing with hard drives. XDF format suggests to me you are trying to copy program disks, and not data disks.

I will say this, then I need to step out of this topic. As noted through your links, XDF formatted disks can only be read by a motherboard floppy disk controller. Almost all motherboards have one. You need to buy a plain old floppy drive and install it in your machine.

So Sorry I can't clean my problem.

In my "floppy disc ", around stroe over 5-10years.
    Now 30% In CMD: A: +enter: message: sector/tract/cylinder ERROR
(Q1) that ERROR floppy disc, is proof died?

I mean. If damage HDD, can doing mirror backup.
(Q2) Can use "HDD" method. Now that target is "Floppy Disc ", to doing copy/backup floppy disc data?

Also, I see someone floopy disc label is "XDF format ", "MAC format" .
(Q3) In this case, I can ignore that floppy FORMAT. Direct copy floppy disk image data to C:?

    Please!

What does a damaged HDD have to do with backing up floppies? That's a different problem.

Once again, you need a floppy disk drive installed in your computer, attached to the motherboard via the floppy disk controller. You don't need to copy the floppy image, you need to copy the files on the floppy to your backup media.

Understand an image is an exact copy - so if data is damaged on first disk, data will be damaged on second disk.

You can try to repair a damaged disk by using the drive maker's diagnostics program. See Hard Drive Diagnostics - listed by maker
