Being a novice in sending attachments other than letters, documents etc, I tried to send an email with over 100 photographs attached. I now know that that was never going to happen. After 20 minutes of trying to send it OE stopped completely. It wouldn't close down by normal means, and I had to use task management to close it. By disconnecting my internet connection and working offline I was at least able to see the email in my outbox, but as soon as I tried to highlight it to delete it, the whole thing seized up again. Does anyone know how I can delete that email to free up my system. With OE closed down the computer seems to work normally.

    Hello SmithBigFil,
    welcome to WindowsBBS ... :) ... !

I have never tried this but I assume that the still unsent mail is held in "Outbox ". By following my directions, you will lose all unsent Emails, held in "Outbox ".

The default storage location for Outlook Express (Windows XP) is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data \Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

where {GUID} is a unique alphanumeric number.

Set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders, navigate to the folder above, rename "Outbox.dbx" > "Outbox.old "

Open Outlook Express and hope for the best. If it works, a new "Outbox.dbx" will be created and you can delete the old one.

    Probably in Outbox.dbx instead of "Drafts.dbx "....

    Arie,
I edited my post to that effect while you were posting.

Thanks Christer, your advice was spot on, and worked like a charm. I did have one nasty moment when I opened OE and my Outbox showed that there was still an email there. However, as soon as I clicked on it the Outbox and rogue email disppeared and a new Outbox opened. Once again, many thanks.
