    Hi all,

In another thread I posted about drives dying "” still can't figure it out.

Anyway, I installed W98 on a new HDD to test the MB, RAM, Controller, PSU, etc., etc., and so far haven't found any hardware\system problems.

So, now that I have W98 on another HDD, how, or to what, do I amend XP's boot.ini so I can have the choice of booting to XP (first boot - HD0 [XP]) or W98 (2nd boot - HD1 [W98])?

Approx how many times a day will you want to boot into Win98:D

Simple thng to do is go into the BIOS as need to change the boot order of the hard drives...Oter then that, as I recall, you have to find one of the thrid part boot managers.

    Hi Steve,

It all depends on how many times I get tech support calls from my friends using 98. :p

I was afraid of that. Isn't there some way to amend the boot.ini to 98? On the second line of my boot.ini it says (rdisk1). Can't I just put in Windows 98; or am I being incredibly dense? I can, however, tap the F8 key and it'll give me the option of what to boot to (CD\Floppy\DVD; HD0; HD1).

Is that going to be the way I have to do it instead of using a boot mangler?

    G'Day jpChris,

Multi - Boot OS's on one PC and to do this securely without one OS seeing the other!

I used in the old days "System Commander 3 up to now 9." still use it on one older system booting to Win95, Win ME and Win2K sp4.

On the more advanced systems I use "BootIt NG" which on one allow me to boot into XP Pro SP3, Vista Ultimate and Windows 7,

BootIt NG is available from http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm tell David F. I sent you.

I had tried many other alternatives including MultiBoot, etc and found them lacking in Admin and other security options, like hiding Other OS "s, etc.

BootIt NG will also allow you to perform Partitioning etc and allow you to have more than 4 primary partitions on a HDD. (MS and standard is max 4 partitions) BootIt NG goes beyond that barrier.

You should use Virtual PC 2007, No need to dual boot.

    Hi Arie,

Thanks for the link. However, I'm an Idiot-Savant when it comes to computers. Some things I'm so good at I scare myself: Other things I can't figure out unless someone is standing over my shoulder.

Would you please direct me to instructions on how to run Virtual PC 2007? Do I install it on XP or 98? Should the 98 drive be hooked up as "Slave" or both drives as "cable select "? Can I use the 98 drive in a USB environment? I need A-B-C For Dummies directions.

    I really am clueless.

    Install VirtualPC on your XP
    Install Win98 inside VirtualPC

Google-> VirtualPC 2007 till your fingers are numb and you'll be an expert;)

Sorry, Steve gave you the best suggestions. I'm not a good tutor. Have a look at Daniel's site: Creating Virtual Machines with Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

Also good clear articles on Virtual PC 2007.

Then my question to all the other posters in this Topic is,

"What happens to the Guest Operating Systems installed in Virtual PC 2007, say on XP Pro Computer, if XP Pro crashes? "

Will "jpChris" loose the lot ?
