I have an HP Pavilion desktop, and I cannot get into the BIOS. No programs were able to detect a burner on my computer, so I wanted to check the BIOS and see if at least that was detecting it.

When I restart the computer and press F1, it says that it is entering the Setup, but the next screen is just blank with a white box about the size of a menu box. I've let it sit there for a while, but nothing changes. The computer will boot up just fine, and I can change the boot order. The BIOS is the only thing that I cannot access.

HP's "tech support" is entirely useless. They advised me to follow a procedure that would remove all the static electricity from the computer or reinstall random programs.....

If you are using a USB keyboard, try using a PS/2 keyboard (it's got the round connection thingie).

It recognizes the keystroke, and says that it is accessing the setup. It just that once it gets to the "setup" screen, it's blank.

I think you are confused about the something. The Boot order is changed in the BIOS Setup Menu therefore you must be accessing it. What are you trying to do?

HP has two different options. I can either access a specific menu that will change the boot order and do nothing else, or enter the setup. What I am trying to do is enter the setup, or what I understood to be the BIOS.

What model number is the Pavilion? F11 has been used to enter the advanced Bios on some of the HPs I worked on. Compaqs were F10.

It's the m766c. I'll give F11 a try and see if that will work.

Finally got it to work. I just reset the CMOS and I am now able to access the BIOS. Now to figure out why my burning software will not detect the burner.

Great, I am glad you got it reset. Have you installed drivers for the drive? What are your computer and OS specs?
