I have a spreadheet that will not add up totals (see below):

    1 $460.00 $223.54 $236.46 10% $23.65 $212.81
    2 $460.00 $299.32 $160.68 10% $16.07 $144.61
    3 $525.00 $174.82 $350.18 10% $35.02 $315.16
    4 $672.59

So, basically I am taking column A minus colum B and that equals Column C. I then have to subtract 10%, so I take Column C-Column D and that makes the total in Column E. Column C minus Column E equals Column F.

The problem- When I total rows 1-3 to give me row 4, it is wrong! If I add 3decimal spaces, it adds it up correctly, however, I need it to be only 2 decimal spaces for payroll. What am I doing wrong? Help! I'm sick of adding this all up by hand!

It sounds like you need to look at how it is rounding up and not a adding or calculation problem. I don't use spreadsheets much any more but I would look at the format for the cells to ensure they are set to currency.

How are you going about adding cells f1:f3? It should add up to 672.58.

This is how I do it: click on cell f1, holding the left mouse button> drag down to cell f4(selecting f1:f4)> go to the formulas tab and click "autosum ".

Alternatively, if you want the total shown in cell a4 for the total of f1:f3, click on a4 and enter the formula =SUM(f1:F3).

If you are using either one of these methods, then it should add them correctly. If it still doesn't work, I would do like Bill said and check the cells for improper formatting. You can check the format just by clicking on a particular cell and the formatting displays in the formula bar. You can clear formatting by clicking on a cell, then, on the home tab, in the editing section, there is a symbol of an eraser, click on that and select clear formats, then start over with your calculation.

    Hope this helps :)
