I have followed the steps to share my PC's wired ethernet connection turning the PC into a wifi hotspot. I can connect to the hotspot from another computer but when I open a browser it does not connect. So it seems that the shared internet is not working (even though internet sharing is enabled). Could there be a DNS issue?

    thanks,

    brian

On the Host I enabled ICS for the ethernet connection and added a wireless network entry, setting it up as computer to computer. On the Client, I then connected to the wifi on the host.

Now things are working somewhat, but with very odd issues:

    1) Some websites simply won't load... they load fine on the host computer.
    2) Outlook can send email on the client but now it can't receive!

These issues are too bizarre for me to even know how to troubleshoot...

Both computers run win xp pro sp2.

Any particular reason why your doing this? Wireless Routers are dirt cheap these days.

It is just temporary. I think the power adapter for my router went bad (since I am measuring no voltage at the jack when plugged in).

Can you post the ipconfig /all for the host and one of the clients?

So things work pretty well, but can't receive email in Outlook from some of my accounts - get an unknown error from my comcast and ipower mail servers - code 0x800CCC0B. My gmail account does not produce an error. Very very bizarre...

Just for fun change the DNS on the client to 77.87.76.182 or 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as a secondary.

If you run the internet connection wizzard it should bridge them automatically. I assumed he did that.

Is the firewall off on those connections?

The firewall is off and I did NOT run the wizard. I just set things up manually... I will try bridging.

    thanks,

I just tried bridging on the host and it said I can't bridge connections if one is shared...

Just start over running the wizzard. It will bridge the connections.
