I recently installed IE8. I did not ask for the Yahoo Search Bar. It was installed anyway and now resides just to the right of the normal search bar. Is there any way to get rid of it? I did not seem to find an answer on this BBS or the internet. It is not in the "Add/Remove Programs." I cannot remove it from the "View" menu or by right clicking on the task bar.
It's not a critical issue, but I just don't want it there. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi Wayne. Is there a yahoo folder in C:/Program Files? If there is have you tried removing the folder and seeing if the yahoo toolbar is gone? If its not then you must have installed IE8 that came bundled with the yahoo toolbar. If that is the case click Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and remove IE8. Then once IE8 is removed download a fresh copy from here. This version does not come with any software or toolbars pre-installed.

Evan - Thanks for the reply.
I checked and removed the Yahoo folder in C:/Program Files. It did not remove the search bar. I uninstalled IE8 as recommended and downloaded the version you recommended and installed it. I still have the Yahoo Search bar at the upper right corner of the browser.
    Any other suggestions?

You probably have the yahoo addons still enabled with Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer 8 and click Tools< Manage Add-ons. Make sure its on Toolbars and Extensions and under that there will be the word show with a drop down arrow. Click the drop down arrow and have it show all add-ons. Now once the list shows all Internet Explorer add-ons go down the list and find the yahoo add-ons and disable them. Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take affect.

I don't know why people don't go to the only good source to download Microsoft products.... Microsoft themselfs...

    I definitely agree.

This is the only place you should download IE8 from.

    Internet Explorer 8: Home page.

    Re: IE8 Problem

    Evan,
I looked where you advised. Yahoo is not there. It is listed under search providers, but it is disabled and I can find no way to delete it.
As far as where I downloaded IE8, I first downloaded it from - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Internet-explorer/default.aspx, which is the Microsoft site.

Then I downloaded the new copy from where Evan suggested. I still can't get rid of the Yahoo Search bar.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Try this, click Start< My Computer and navigate to the following directory, C:/Windows/Downloaded Program Files. Are there any yahoo add-ons in that folder?

If you downloaded IE8 from Microsoft, you won't get a Yahoo search bar.

In that case it is most likely you downloaded & installed another piece of software that added the Yahoo bar. This is quite common (search bars or other 'stuff' being added by 'free' software), and why you should always check the license agreement and/or choose 'custom install' and make sure you uncheck these 'extra's'...

Thanks for the help, but the problem still exists. I checked C:/Windows/Downloaded Program Files, and there is nothing there about Yahoo.
Also, when I download software, I always make sure it doesn't add the other stuff, like another taskbar or other junk. If it was added with another program, it must have been hidden.
I went to the registry and removed anything that had Yahoo on it. The other searchbar is still there, but it doesn't have the Yahoo name on it any more.
I think I''ll go back to IE6 or Firefox. This is getting to be too much trouble..

Click Start< Search and search for the term yahoo and see if any yahoo folders come up that you can remove. If you have already searched your harddrive for any yahoo leftovers and the yahoo toolbar is still in IE8 then I'm afraid I'm all out of suggestions.

Thank to all for the replies. I had already done the search for Yahoo and deleted the files. This problem only started when I upgraded from IE6 to IE8. It is supposed to be more secure, but I'm already tired of the mess. I'll go back to something else for now and stop bothering you guys. I may try it again later.
Once again -- Thanks for all of the replies.
