My OS is Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I'm afraid that, at my advanced age, my short term memory is beginning to fail!

Sad though it may sound, I CANNOT remember what the initial "Windows Explorer" window looks like!

I THOUGHT that the "Folders "in the left hand pane should appear "unopened" and the viewing pane on the right should be blank. You then navigated as per.

However, now, the window appears with "> Graham and Mary (a lovely woman)> Documents" in the address bar at the top. In the left hand pane the "Documents" folder is open and the sub folders shown. In the right hand pane the sub folders and files in the "Documents" folder are shown.

Now, bearing in mind that you're dealing with a doddery old duffer,----- this aint right surely?!

Can some kind person please tell me that my expectations are correct, and advise how I might revert to the status quo (a great rock band BTW)?!

    Look forward to your response(s).

    Regards,

    Graham Newey

From memory, the old style was that you needed to click the plus sign to open the branches. Vista has been updated "newer, faster, better ", so I don't know if you can go back that far in time with it.

Put "folder options" into Help and Support to find information (I haven't made many changes in that area).

If you have a folder you use regularly, you can right-click on it and choose Send To -> Desktop (create shortcut) to make an icon on the desktop.

    Dear Mattman,

    Am back home.

    Thanks for your comments.

Have found nothing that helps but decided there are a lot of other things more important to worry about!!

    I shall just soldier on!

    Thanks again for your time.

Hi Graham, thanks for the follow-up. To me it seems that it is "new-style" vs "old style ". I like some of the old style ways and would prefer them sometimes, but what can we do?

Have you caught up with Tags yet? They are to help searching when you have gigantic amounts of personal files...and no, I haven't started "tagging" my files yet. I can find most of what I want relatively quickly...so far :D

Good luck with your more pressing problems.

    Matt
