    G'Day "trub ",

1 unnamed 12 gb 12 gb free, healthy (Eisa Configuration)

    1. - This is the Recovery Partition - containing the current Vista Recovery data / installation, it should not however show the total size as being FREE.
If you use it, it will wipe all the existing installation and files and install a fresh copy of the default OS (Vista Home Premium) and default software. The partition is a FAT32. The recovera image type system dumps and creates all the partitions and OS and folder and file structure. To boot to it there was an instruction for a key you need to press at boot time to access it.

    2 C: 143.04 gb ntfs (system,boot,page file,active,crash dump Primary Partition.

    2. - This is where the Recovery / Installation, installs (dumps the image data, folder and files) of your Operating system and default software.

3 Data D: 143.04 gb ntfs healthy (Primary Partition).

    3. - This is created for you to store your personal or professional data, files etc you create or save like downloads etc.

You also have the C: drive (2nd) partition although containing all the OS and software, this is where you install any other software and by default contains your "My Document" folders and files, saved pictures etc.

You should invest in a External USB HDD backup system that can be used to backup files for both Laptops.

Will most certainly get an external hdd. I double checked and the EISA config partition does display no usage all free space. I understand not to use it but can you look to see if it is really empty? I am a little uncertain as to what you mean about why it would show as empty if something should be there? Also what do you mean about booting it to there at boot time? Should I do something to correct this?

Since it looks like I will upgrade with a clean install, will the setup process establish or walk you through establishing these partitions?

Should I set up basically the same partitioning when installing the new os?

    Thanks PC

    G'Day "trub ",

The question I asked was: Posted On: 17 Oct 2009 11:19 AM (AESDT)

    G'Day Folks,

    Customer has model #Aspire 4730z, snid # 91309825416.
With Vista Home Premium installed (factory default) and wants to get the upgrade option DVD to Windows 7 please.

However would like to confirm that the upgrade CD does include all the default software installation and that the DVD can be used to install a complete "Fresh" installation of Windows 7, as the current setup had some virus infection which may not have been cleaned correctly and thus would prefer to do a clean install of Windows 7 and the default software.

    Please reply asap - Thanks

The reply I got was: Posted On: 17 Oct 2009 02:36 PM (AESDT)

    Good Afternoon Roger,

The DVD will have all the features which you have asked for Roger. Customer does look eligible and will be able to proceed with the upgrade.

PC sounds like we have a winner!! Will hit you back when it arrives. At your leisure will you look back a couple of posts and read my questions about the empty partition. The new os install will probably render this unimportant but I can use all of the education I can garner.

Again thanks for all you help:cool::):D
