Windows Vista cannot remove desktop shortcut

hey, i removed a file from my computer, but then when i went to remove the shortcut, it would not allow me, as the file no longer exists...can someone help me get rid of this please

If you are trying shift+delete, then first of all send that shortcut to recycle bin. Empty the bin from there !!

 

well thats the problem...it wont let me send to recycle bin, as the file no longer exists!

 

Have you tried Shift+delete ?

You have not refreshed or rebooted, have you ?
Try those first.
If no luck still then follow these steps:

You can force the re-indexing. Open Control Panel and double click the
Indexing Options. Click Advanced, click the Index Settings tab, and then
click Rebuild. If you are prompted for an administrator password or
confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
