    If I stop or disable the following services, which locate at administrative tools > services, may I improve my system more safe?

    The following services which I stop and change the startup type to manual:

    I do the startup type to "disable" as following:
    1. Alerter;
    2. Messenger;
    3. Routing and Remote Access;
    4. Telnet, Terminal Services;

    I do the startup type to "manual" and service status to "stop" as following:
    1. Automatic Updates;
    2. Background Intelligent Transfer Service;
    3. ClipBook;
    4. Distributed Transaction Coordinator;
    5. DNS Client;
    6. Error Reporting Service;
    7. Indexing Service;
    8. Computer Browser;
    9. Cryptographic Services;
    10. TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper;
    11. Wireless Zero Configuration;
    12. Workstation;

    And I can NOT find the Upload Manager services on my system, why?

    You have labeled yourself a "beginner" and changing the configuration of services must be understood. Problems arising further down the line may be due to a disabled service or a service set to manual but not starting when required and you don't make the connection.

    Have a look at BlackViper and focus on his "SAFE" settings. I have gone by those for years with no problems. If you aren't sure that a setting is "safe" for you ... :cool: ... leave it alone!

    That service is not an XP service. I haven't got it and the reason is probably that I haven't installed the "Upload Manager ".

    As a beginner, I would stay well away of disabling services, you'll get yourself into problems.

    If you are behind a router (quite common), make sure the routers firewall is switched on. You can also run an additional (software) firewall on your OS. With both those running you'll be safe enough.

    The rest will depend on your own behavior. If you allow malicious programs to run on your computer, there's hardly any measure that will save you (from yourself).

    The website is amazing to study the configuration for various OS, I try to do better.

    Thanks, Christer and Arie.
