I'm trying without success to download photos from my laptop. I thought the best way to do this would be to burn them onto a cd or DVD (the latter came to mind when I couldn't succeed with CDs). I'm using Roxio Easy Media Creator.

Does either (or both) disc(s) need to be formatted before use?

Hi MBrand, No worry with format. Just make sure you have suitable media for your CD Burner / DVD Burner. (This may be CD-R CD-RW or + or DVD-R DVD+R or DVD-RW or +). I have used both CD & DVD disks to burn Photos to in Slide presentation or just for storage backup. I've used Nero, WMP 11 and Picasa 3 as the Burn softwares. Neil.

    G'Day MBrand,

CD-R and DVD-R are "write once only" = "R" and do not need to be formatted, all you need is the Roxior other program like Nero to write the files you want to, on the CD-R or DVD-R, each have a part of the program called "Create Data - CD" or " - DVD" as part of their functions.

CD-RW or DVD-RW are Re-Writable media, and should be formated using the Roxio or other program to do so and then simply use it to drag and drop or copy and paste the files to the CD-RW or DVD-RW disk.

Once the RW disks are formatted, they behave and are usable like a floppy disk drive or USB stick on which you can create folder and delete them and recreate new ones, etc., they say, a thousand time, as long as they are not damaged or badly scratched.

Trust this is helpfull and more informative for you
