We are running at my work 2 workgroups. My CoWorker and I are on a domain and need to connect to one of the servers on the workgroup using a simulation program. We get access denied error messages in the simulator program but Windows Explorer connects just fine to the workgroup server though.

We think there is a problem is the password security policy on the workgroup. does not meet of my domain's security policy. The password to log into the user account causes an error message saying the password is "too long, too short, or not complex enough." when we try to create a user account.

The simulator program needs the accounts to talk back and forth between my computer and the server, not for reading or writing files but just communicating. The source files are on the server and the simulator needs to communicate with the files.

We went into the DCOMCONFIG and checked to make sure it was the correct username and password,
we also went under network properties and made sure everything was correct there. There are no firewalls or security settings I could see. The account works for users on the workgroup but just me and the guy on a separate domain cannot create the necessary user account because the password doesn't meet the domain security requirements.

    any advice is welcome!

I'm at work right now. I'll see if I can help you in a few hours when I get home.

I misread the first time. I thought you were in a workgroup trying to connect to a domain which I do all the time with my personal computer in the office. Trying to do the opposite I have no experience with. Sorry for the delay.
