hey guys, i have a Dell laptop... Inspiron E1705. Today i while i was downloading a movie (which the wife told me NOT to do), the screen turned black and it read "Hardware Error" and contact blah blah blah. It wouldnt let me do anything so i shut the computer off. Once i tried to restart it, it tried once to reboot and it said it was trying to repair itself and had dots all over the screen. Once it was done it tried to restart and it never did. Ever since then, all that happens is a black screen. The only led light on is the microsoft power icon but the other 2 arent on. It sounds like the fan does turn on but thats it... there is nothing on the screen and the leds stay off.

I tried to reinstall Vista by putting in the cd/dvd, but it doesnt do anything. The disc spins and then stops without anything appearing on the screen.

Not sure if the hard drive is fried (my fault of course from downloading The Proposal movie lol) or if it is another issue like the power source/battery. Am i going to have to buy a new laptop ??

Thanks guys... sorry if i mis spelled some stuff, im typing on my iphone... any help is appreciated !!

    Any help is appreciated.

    You should run Dell's diagnostics.

    1. Restart the computer and tap the F12 key as soon as it starts to boot up
    2. Select 'Diagnostic' from the boot menu. The computer will run its pre-boot assessment tests (PSA) & then Dell Diagnostics will start

No, you'd have to get Dell support involved.
