I have been updating windows with windows update, And ive been noticing how its affecting my computer... First of all after the first installation of updates i noticed the computer took longer to start up... now i did an update for Service pack forvista and Once windows loaded there was no tray icon for the internet... but the internet is still working...

So i googled it and saw some people fixed it by right clicking taskbar, properties, notification are tab...
where it says system icons they said to tick network.. but that is darked out for me??

What is with these windows updates??? They have done more harm than good by the looks of things.

Also, I cannot connect to the internet at uni which is a proxy server, yet it was still managing to download windows updates when the tray icon was showing the internet was connected but 'unidentified'. I then entered the credentials...
And it still didn't work. Before I reinstalled windows I had no problems with this and I connected every time to the university internet without fail...
Yet it still works at home.

I dont know what is happening... its just like eversince i deleted that partition as earlier posted on this partition everthing has turned to ****.

Ok, I found the solution... For anyone else who had this problem... there is no need to edit REGISTRY!!!!!!!!!!

    Simply click,
    Start,
    All Programs,
    Accessories,
    Command Prompt

    And type in this

    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

    explorer.exe

press enter, and in less than 20 seconds your problem will be solved! :D

    Question!!

Do you press enter after taskkill/f/im explorer.exe and then type in explorer.exe and press enter. or, do you type in both and then press enter?

is the from the C prompt, the c:windows prompt or the c: windows/system32 prompt?

In my command prompt it will only let me type one line, not another for explorer.exe and also I get the message that taskkill/f/im explorer.exe is an invalid argument?

    Copy and paste this...

    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

    explorer.exe

Into Command prompt, both exactly how it is above and press enter
