    Good afternoon all!

We started with two computers, one was purchased from a church sale and is home built, the other one came from a business that upgraded their computer system. We could not get the first one to work and the second one looked like it was in safe mode and none of the settings would change. We put the hard drive from the second computer into the first one. I could not restore the computer so I erased the hard drive with "Active killdisk" download. I have reloaded windows 98 on it from a floppy disk. When I reboot the computer, it goes thru the normal start up and then flashes the windows 98 logo and goes straight to dos. I am not sure what I am missing but I could sure use some help. It's probably staring me right in the face. I am not sure what the first computer has in it but the second computer that we took the hard drive out of is an IBM 300GL. Originally, it had windows 95 on it but the business had upgraded to windows 98.

I sure do appreciate any help that can be given. Have a great day!
    Thanks!

Oh, I do not have a windows 98 cd, only a floppy. I was not given any discs for either computer.

I thank you for this information but I have done this. It looks like one of the steps got by-passed so I will try again and let you know.

Thank you so much for your time!

The step you have missed is actually installing Windows 98 from a CD.

Whiskeyman, I followed all the steps again and I did not miss any of them on the first try. Fdisk and format done successfully and I am still coming up in dos with a "c" prompt. This one has me stumped! Please, any help is appreciated.

    Have a great night all!

As others have pointed out: You do not have Windows 98 installed!

Windows 98 comes on a CD. The floppy you have is only the boot disk, not the OS.
