So DCOM was throwing errors on one of my servers today so I decided to disable it on my computer at home to see what it would do. The results were not so good. DCOM cannot be turned off while windows is running apparently so a restart was necessary. After the restart, here are my symptoms:

My taskbar no longer shows my running programs.
Services.msc will only show standard services. The extended tab only shows some strange graphic.
I cannot go to the properties of anything in services.msc. Clicking properties does nothing.
Many other windows services are not started it seems.

I ran DCOMbobulator from majorgeeks.com and tried to re-enable dcom, and after restart, my taskbar no longer shows so I have no start menu now.

    I am running XP x64

Please help. I really don't want to format.
