Win 7 & SP2

Here is my quandary I am and have been running Vista Home Premium 64 bit for most of a year now with nary problem however I am unable to install SP2 even after following all of Microsoft's tips and instructions. So my question is I pre-bought a copy of Windows 7 64 bit upgrade due to be shipped around the 22nd of this month,
do I need SP 2 installed to do an upgrade install of Win. 7 ?
I know I could probably fix this by doing a repair install of Vista using my disk but as literally everything works great I would rather not go through the hassle.
So I'm asking should I just wait and upgrade to Win. 7?

 

Thanks Tony, that was the answer I was looking for. I bit the bullet and did a repair install and loaded SP2 everything went great.
